It's probably the best Nav-integration unit available right now. There aren't ANY perfect ones, but this one comes closest. Other ones I've tried had a number of random issues -- interfered with the electrical, didn't always display the correct track info, and gave me issues switching sources, etc. The Peripheral stopped ALL of that.
Don't want to misrepresent and say it's HARD to install, but it's not as easy as fishing out the XM plug behind the glove compartment and clicking in. Prying all the trim off is a hassle, getting EVERYTHING unscrewed to pull the radio takes time, and then getting all the cables situated so everything can be cleanly reinstalled is a challenge.
Overall -- it takes some time to get installed, but once it's in, it's SOLID. AND . . . it's upgradable, so if Peripheral ever comes out with a new version of the software, you can upload it to your existing adaptor -- which means it's not going to be outdated in 6 months.

I installed this unit into my 2007 GMC Sierra. The ipod interface is very nice. Steering wheel controls work very well to control the ipod. Sound quality is great. One small con is that it will not charge my iPod Touch (you can get an adapter to solve this problem). I cannot recommend the HD radio tuner option that can be purchased with the media gateway. I removed the tuner after a short time. It had great sound quality be dropped out every time I went behind a hill, building, etc. The HD tuner was a real disappointment and be aware of the return policy before you buy this....

This device works as advertised most of the time. It does lock up on occasion (once per week or so). It would be nice if it could scroll through artists or song lists faster. I have over 3000 songs on my iPod and finding a song or artist can take some time.

ON the plus side, Install was quick and easy following provided directions. Works exactly as described.
On the down side, it took time getting used to which buttons to push when, so a lot of extra searching happened.
backward scrolling would be handy for larger ipods

I've looked for an item like this for over a year with no luck. Unfortunately, when GM began adding the aux inputs for ipods they didn't put any accomodation into the systems for the cable inputs required for actually using an ipod in a vehicle. We own a large camper and I drive a Sierra 2500. My truck is great for pulling our camper but the suspension is very stiff (goes with the territory) and GM put the aux input at top right of my navigation equipped audio system.
Until now I've used a transpod dock which plugs in to provide both aux input and power for the ipod, but the dock is wearing out the accessory input tht holds the transpod. Every item I've looked at to store the ipod eliminates either or all of the OnStar, XM radio or GMS navigation functionality.
I can't speak to the ease of installation as I had this done at my dealer. The unit is in now and there seems to be some difficulty in recognizing various playlists on an ipod. I've tried the system with the older style video ipod (Gen 5) and the newer style ipod classic (Gen 6). The instructions for operation don't quite match up to the GM nav system as they repeatedly refer to a play button which is only available onscreen when the system is in dvd mode. Trying both types of ipods I am having somewhat better luck getting the module to go back to the root menu through a cryptic process to change between playlists - sometimes this works and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes when I'm able to get the module to see and change playlists the system "hangs" while displaying the new playlist selection but doesn't actually play the new song.
If you don't create different playlists for your music or don't have a ton of songs on you ipod you probably won't be bothered by this, but I have hundreds of songs organized into about a dozen playlists so it's important for me. I'll see if have better luck with this over time - currently I've set an a Gen 5 ipod up with only two playlists to see how this works. The good news is I can still use my navigation and XM radio (you do have to go back to the root menu and the somewhat tricky selection process to move back to XM).
I need to make sure my OnStar and handsfree phone still work.
